Building My Casa

Three immigrants from different parts of Latin America share a small apartment in NYC. On their hidden rooftop, they discover a farewell letter from Antonio, a former tenant.

On that rooftop, they try to find solace while navigating the physically and psychologically taxing city that is New York. A place that can consume people's lives and feel completely lonely, despite being full of people from all over the world.

A play about identity, failure, memory, and the alienation that many Latin immigrants face. Featuring improv, music, magic, and maybe a cat...

La MaMa Kids: Make a Mask Celebrating "Day of the Dead"

Interactive workshop with Mariana Garcia Tinoco

Students will learn how to make a traditional alebrije mask, which will be used for play/dance. Alebrijes are a Mexican tradition influenced by the original peoples of the Mesoamerican region. In the Zapotec tradition, parents assigned an animal protector to every newborn, known as Tona. In the Nahua culture, Tonas are spirited animals that eventually become nahuales (a human with the ability to transform into their Tona-Animal).
